Nanaimo man arrested for armed robbery

A 39-year-old male has been charged with one count of armed robbery and Theft over $5000 following an investigation by the Nanaimo RCMP Street Crimes Unit. On June 13, 2019 investigators located and arrested Dustin Sean Williams at his Ladysmith reesidence.
Williams appeared in Nanaimo Provincial court on June 17th and was formally charged with one count of Robbery, pointing a Firearm at an individual and committing an indictable offence with his face masked. The Robbery charge stems from an incident on June 5th at the Best Buy Liquor Store located on Jingle Pot Road. In that incident, Williams allegedly pointed a firearm at a clerk and with his face covered, stole money from the till then fled without being apprehended by attending officers. Immediately following his June 13th arrest, investigators carried out a search warrant on his residence and found evidence which furthered their investigation.
Williams was also charged on June 17th with one count of Theft over $5000 following an April 10th theft of two rings, valued at approximately $21,000 from Mappins Jewellers located in the Woodgrove Centre. Investigators have been able to retrieve one of the two stolen rings. The search continues for the remaining three rings.
On June 17th Williams was remanded into police custody to await his next court appearance set for June 25th in Nanaimo Provincial court. Upon appearing on June 25th Williams was remanded to await his next court appearance which is set for July 2nd.
