File # 2020-34702

MIchael Bonson

Warrants have been issued for 33-year-old Michael Bonson after he failed to appear in Nanaimo Provincial court on charges of Assaulting a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Flight from Police. Efforts to locate Bonson have been unsuccessful and it is believed that he is taking measures to actively evade police.

The original charges against Bonson arose from an incident that occurred at approximately 2 am, on September 21, 2020 in downtown Nanaimo. It is alleged that during a vehicle stop, the investigating officer formed grounds to arrest Bonson for possession of illegal drugs. While attempting to arrest Bonson, a violent struggle ensued and the officer was assaulted. During the confrontation, the officer deployed a taser however it was ineffective. Bonson managed to break free from the officer, then got back into his vehicle and drove off. Neither Bonson or his vehicle were located. The officer did not require medical treatment and continued working.

Bonson is white, 5 ft.11, 180 pounds with short blonde hair and blue eyes. He sports a moustache and goatee. His primary vehicle is a while older model Nissan Pathfinder however; it is unknown if the vehicle is currently being driven due to various mechanical issues.

If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Michael Bonson, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2020-34702.
